Congressman Adam Kinzinger kept it real on LSSC about immigration

Congressman Adama Kinzinger (R-IL) decided he’d keep it real about immigration during his visit to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Kinzinger believes the best way to deal with the immigration issue is to find a pathway to citizenship for folks.

Now, this doesn’t mean Kinzinger is against building that wall that Mexico was supposed to pay for.

Like Donald Trump, Kinzinger believes the wall is needed in order to stop drug cartels who use tunnels and airplanes as their main way of getting into the U.S. illegally.

“The cartels in Mexico make money on two products, trafficking humans and trafficking drugs,” is what the congressman told Colbert.

It’s just that Kinzinger doesn’t believe it’s reasonable to throw folks, who’ve been here since they were knee high to a grasshopper, over the wall because it will create a bigger problem that no one in D.C. knows how to fix.

Kinzinger said to Colbert, “Compassion to me is to have a secure border and then ultimately say, ‘Let’s work together to have a generous immigration system that is welcoming and opening to people. And let’s take the people that are here illegally.' We’re not going to deport them, let’s just be straight up about that.  So let’s get a pathway to legalization so that they can become Americans themselves.”
